MME. ABOMAH: “THE AFRICAN GIANTESS” WHO WAS ONCE THE TALLEST WOMAN IN THE WORLD
Ella Williams (Mme Abomah) was once the world`s tallest lady in the late 1800`s and early 1900`s. She was reputed to be 7ft 6inch giantess. Though she was born in South Carolina in USA, her show manager claimed she was born In Dahomey (now Republic of Benin).
Born in South Carolina in Oct. of 1865, Ella Grigsby narrowly missed being born a slave as the 13th Amendment to the U.S Constitution was ratified only 10 months previous. Ella came to work for Elihu and Harriet Williams when as a teenager. Because Grigsby was the family name of her parent’s slave holders, Ella took the Williams surname as her own.
Abomah claimed none of her other siblings were unusually large and she had been contacted by various vaudeville and circus promoters to sign a contract and tour as a giantess, but always refused. However, while working as a cook in her native South Carolina, she agreed to be hired by Frank C. Bostock for a tour of the British Isles in 1896.
The “tour” that Frank Bostock signed Ella up for was a tour of the British Isles. Bostock understood that Ella’s act would not go over well in her native country. Racism in Europe was not as pronounced as in the States so Miss Williams was ultimately to find greater success on foreign soil.
Bostock at the time mixed a little fact with fiction in promoting his act. He gave Williams the stage name Abomah, a name which came from Abomey, the capital of the Kingdom of Dahomey (now Benin). He further promoted Abomah as being a member of one of the legendary Dahomey Amazons, the all-female fighting force that existed around the time.
“One of King Dahomey’s Amazons who has been brought over to England for show purposes is a giantess indeed. Her height is eight feet, and she is both broad and muscular,” he used to say, according to the American press.
Abomah’s manager knew that in Europe, his strong and beautiful African Giantess would definitely be given massive audience. Over the course of her 30 year career Abomah was to tour not only Britain but most of continental Europe, Australia and New Zealand, South America, and Cuba.
Abomah also had very expensive and extensive clothing, making the Amazon Giantess always appear elegant and royal.
When Britain declared war on Germany in August 1914, Abomah cancelled her tours and came back to the US in March 1915. She worked for Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey and at Coney Island. Abomah was still doing shows in the 1920’s before she left the scene.
She drank whiskey, swore often, and smoked handmade cigars. She wore pants under her skirt and a gun under her apron. At six feet tall and two hundred pounds, Mary Fields was an intimidating woman.
Mary lived in Montana, in a town called Cascade. She was a special member of the community there. All schools would close on her birthday, and though women were not allowed entry into saloons, she was given special permission by the mayor to come in anytime and to any saloon she liked.
But Mary wasn’t from Montana. She was born into enslavement in Tennessee sometime in the early 1830s, and lived enslaved for more than thirty years until slavery was abolished. As a free woman, life led her first to Florida to work for a family and then Ohio when part of the family moved.
When Mary was 52, her close friend who lived in Montana became ill with pneumonia. Upon hearing the news, Mary dropped everything and came to nurse her friend back to health. Her friend soon recovered and Mary decided to stay in Montana settling in Cascade.
Her beginning in Cascade wasn’t smooth. To make ends meet, she first tried her hand at the restaurant business. She opened a restaurant, but she wasn’t much of a chef. And she was also too generous, never refusing to serve a customer who couldn’t pay. So the restaurant failed within a year.
But then in 1895, when in her sixties, Mary, or as “Stagecoach Mary” as she was sometimes called because she never missed a day of work, became the second woman and first African American to work as a mail carrier in the U.S. She got the job because she was the fastest applicant to hitch six horses.
Eventually she retired to a life of running a laundry business. And babysitting all the kids in town. And going to baseball games. And being friends with much of the townsfolk.

Actress, Nkechi Sunday Blessing has said that she can comfortably buy a man and put him in her home.
The thespian stated this while speaking in an Instagram live session with Chidi Mike CMC, a mediator and car dealer and three other participants.
The topic being thrashed out in the Instagram session appeared to be marriage – whether it’s necessary for women to get hitched.

In her words: “No be everybody come this life say dem won marry. I can comfortably buy a man with the little change that I have, you dey hear English. I can comfortably buy a guy and put him in my house. I will say sit down there; he will stay until I tell him to move.”
I am not interested in the amount but the type of salary.
My friend, there are different types of salaries. Read till the end and you will understand.
There is no average income.
The rich are becoming richer, while the poor are getting poorer.
There is no middle class because it has completely disappeared.
Salary, is a specific amount of money that an employee is paid for work done.
The big question is Which type do you earn?
Onion Salary: – You grab it, you open it, and you cry.
Storm Salary: – You don’t know when it’s coming or going.
Menstrual Salary: – It comes once a month and lasts only four days.
Magic Salary: – You touch it and it disappears.
Amnesia Salary: – You can’t remember what you spent it on.
Time Travelling Salary: – You spend it paying various debts even before you collect it.
Active Salary – Once you stop working, it stops.
But there is another one called RESIDUAL INCOME
What is Residual Income?
You work once, and it keeps paying you over and over and over again even AFTER you have stopped working.
Whether it’s magic salary, amnesia salary or onion salary, the moment it STOPS coming, your life becomes unbearable.
Financial LITERACY is the tool needed to TRANSFORM your salary into a RESIDUAL INCOME, so you can create financial freedom and time freedom.
ONLY YOUR INVESTMENT can keep you going even after all the onions, amnesty, traveling, active salaries have left you drenched.
Research has it that the poorest group of people in the world are Salary earners, next to beggars.
They live in a vicious cycle of poverty managed on 30 days. Salary is continuously being awaited every month and any slight delay brings about heartbreaking anxiety, pressure and disappointment.
Salary Is a short term solution to a life time problem.
Salary alone cannot solve your money problems. You need multiple Sources of income to balance.
The tax returns form contains about 11 income streams, salary is just one.
Don’t live Your Life fishing with just one hook, there are many fishes in the ocean.
Salary is the MEDICINE for managing POVERTY, not the CURE. Only your BUSINESS or INVESTMENT Cures Poverty
Most investors are not salary earners.
The difference between those beggars on the street and salary earners is one month’s salary.
Truncate the flow of their salary for one month and you would realize majority belong to the lower class.
If you divide your salary by the rate of exchange, you will discover that you are poorer, relative to when you started work.
Or divide your salary per annum by 2,000 hours to know what your one hour is worth.
If you do not have 3 months salary in savings, you are already poor.
Being a salary earner is a mentality, break it!
Your worth Is far more than your salary.
Salary Is the value someone has put on your effort, How much do you value yourself?
You can’t increase in value, unless you VALUE yourself differently.
Life Is a trade off between time, effort and reward. To be rewarded more, you have to become more valuable.
Most salary earners end up poor in the long and short term.
Salary is the bribe they gave you to forget your dreams.
I therefore urge every one of us to be FINANCIALLY INTELLIGENT, FINANCIALLY LITERATE and TRAIN OUR EYES TO SEE OPPORTUNITIES IN PROBLEMS. Delve into entrepreneurship because Salary is a lifetime disappointment.
Being a salary earner or investor is a decision. Life Will not change until you decide.
Women I must tell you is another school of thought every man should study in other to succeed in any relationship you’re involve. They are very simple creature, yet very complicated. Their lifestyle could be very irritating, but once you understand their needs, you will definitely confess that they are the best gift God has blessed men with.
📌 When a woman is angry, she doesn’t mean over half of what she says. If possible always hug her to calm her down, they’re the weaker one and need your cuddling especially in angry moments.
📌 The most difficult time for a woman is when she is away from the man she truly loves. She can get distressed. When you are away from your woman always keep in touch. Call her very often, don’t allow to feel your absence.
📌 It takes time for a woman to trust a man, it’s hard to change her mind when she does, but if you mess-up, you might just forget it. Once you succeed in gaining the trust of a woman, don’t joke with it.
📌 A woman is such a school you will never graduate from. Yes! You can never graduate in this school; keep learning, remain loyal, it worth it.
📌 Your wedding certificate with her is not a *driving licence*, its just a *Learners permit* . Continue wooing her. Most men think about the wedding that it is all over. No! Continue as you are doing during the courtship, because those are part of the ingredients that will sustain the union.
📌She can be very bitter now, and a very sweet angel later on, it all lies in your approach. Yes treat her right always.
📌 A woman hardly forget things, she remembers hurts more, avoid making her hurt. Avoid negative words and affirm her always.
📌A woman can be highly secretive. Most times when they prove hard to men, they go to their closet and cry to friends. Make your woman your best friend.
📌All women Love to be begged. Men often miss out on this. Yes, please handle them like babies sometime it is all what they want.
📌All women have a unique character like salt, their presence might not be noticed but their absence makes all things tasteless.
📌if she loves you she can do everything you ask of her as far as it makes u happy, so never force her to love you.
📌If you don’t take care of her, she will find someone who will. They are always there only that she chose you. Always remember this.
📌 If a woman truely loves you, even to ask money from you she will be shy, but as a gentleman don’t wait to be asked and most especially if she loves you she can never leave you to spend unnecessarily…that’s what makes them special.
_If you have a good woman in your life, don’t take her for granted. They are very expensive jewelry._ “`listen to the words of elders“`
Never accept to be ‘ House wife’ except you’re making money from Home .
It’s even wrong to refer to yourself as “House wife” because house doesn’t marry. Yeah! You’re married to a man not a house !
It’s NOT advisable to even open a shop in front of your house to be selling things, such makes you look older than your age because you will no longer dress well , make up, and some will just stay with wrapper from morning till evening. It’s wrong!
Except you’re old , don’t accept to open a shop in front of your house ! Rent a shop outside or build your office away from home so that you will always look good and smart as you have a sense of going to work.
I have seen women who don’t take their bath but keep washing cloths, plates till noon , later they seat down with GOTV to watch film till their husband is back and meet them with a wrapper tied around them, he may not talk but he will start looking out to those who dress well.
Men are moved by sight . That’s true regardless of who they are : doctor, pastor , imam, prophet, Engineer or whatever . We are human being and what we see matters.
Always dress well as a woman. Look good. Use good perfum. Go to work. And make sure you have time for your home . Remember to come home early as possible. Always look your best not just for your husband but for yourself. It increase your self esteem to look so good and smell well.
There was an aged artist who lived in a small village. The man used to design beautiful artistic works to be sold at an attractive price.
One day, a poor man among the villagers challenged the old man saying: “You earn a lot of money from your handiwork but why don’t you assist poor people in the village?
Can’t you see that the butcher is not as rich as you are, but he still shares free meat to the poor people in the village?
Also, look at the village baker. He is a poor man with a large family. Yet he gives the poor people free loaves of bread”.
The artist did not respond angrily to the accusations. He only smiled.
The poor man was confused about the reaction of the artist so he left him and went out spreading rumors that the artist was so rich, but he was a selfish person who only accumulated wealth and refused to help the poor.
The villagers hated the old artist and they all forsook him.
The old artist became sick and could not do anything for himself but nobody among the villagers cared to visit him or helped him so he died a lonely old man.
The days passed by and the villagers observed that the butcher stopped free distribution of meat and the baker could not give the poor people free loaves of bread any more.
When the butcher and the baker were asked why they stopped helping the villagers, they said that: “the old artist used to donate money every month to pay for the free meat and bread to the poor people in the village. Now that he was dead, there was nobody to pay for the free food anymore”
Actually, many people may have wrong impressions and different opinions about you.
But do not allow any of them to influence or destroy who you are.
Hmmm! You’re always very quick in passing judgement, be careful, you too will surely be judged very soon. Do not pass judgment on anyone based on his physical appearance or what people say about him.
There are things about his personal life you do not know. If you were privileged to know about them, your judgment would surely be different.
A man died in a drinking- spot / dance hall. Another person died in the Church. If we are to judge them, we would say that the 1st man died a sinner and the 2nd man died a righteous man.
But the 1st man entered the drinking spot to preach against sin and the 2nd man entered the Church to steal from the church.
For this reason, you and I cannot decide who goes to heaven or who goes to hell.
Fear God in your privacy and fear God in the open.
Human physical appearance is just a deception therefore forgive people and ignore their short – comings.
Pray for one another. Be good to everybody. And don’t cut off your relationship with a person just because he does not please you.
Establish unity and harmony with all.
For the LORD Who created all souls, knows what each soul conceals.
The late king of a certain community had ten wild dogs. He used them to torture and eat any of his servants who made a mistake. One of the servants gave an opinion that was wrong, and the king didn’t like it at all. So he ordered that the servant be thrown to the dogs. The servant said, “I served you for ten years, and you do this to me? Please give me ten days before throwing me to those dogs!” The king agreed. In those ten days, the servant went to the guard who looks after the dogs and told him he would like to serve the dogs for the next ten days. The guard was baffled but agreed, and the servant started feeding the dogs, cleaning for them, bathing them, and providing all sorts of comfort for them. When the ten days were over, the king ordered that the servant be thrown to the dogs for his punishment. When he was thrown in, we were all amazed to see the ravenous dogs only licking the feet of the servant! The king, baffled at what he was seeing, said, ”What has happened to my dogs?” The servant replied, “I served the dogs for only ten days, and they didn’t forget my service. Yet I served you for a whole ten years and you forgot all, at my first mistake!” The king realized his mistake and ordered the servant to be set free. This post is a message to all those who forget the good things a person does for them as soon as the person makes a mistake towards them. Don’t put out the history that is filled with good because of a mistake you don’t like.
